AT&T 4G Network

This phone runs on AT&T's dual-band 850/1900 MHz 4G network (UMTS/HSDPA/HSPA+), and with HSPA+ you'll experience mobile data speeds up to 4x faster than ordinary mobile broadband--up to approximately 6 Mbps (download). AT&T has deployed HSPA+ to virtually 100 percent of its mobile broadband network, which enables 4G speeds when combined with enhanced backhaul (via Ethernet or fiber).

See larger image.

Backhaul is one of the major pieces of a telecommunications network. Think of it as the limbs connecting AT&T's cell towers with AT&T's backbone network that provides access to the Internet.

In areas where either AT&T's 3G or 4G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways.

Note: AT&T's 4G mobile broadband coverage is not available in all areas. 4G speeds delivered by HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul; availability increasing with ongoing backhaul deployment.

Optional AT&T Services

AT&T Navigator: This premium GPS navigation application includes audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates and re-routing options, and 3D moving maps (additional charges applicable). AT&T Navigator offers several other features to make your commute more enjoyable and reliable, including mobile access to Yellowpages.com. You'll be able to find the closes ATM, restaurant, gas station, Wi-Fi hotspot and more with over 10 million business listings.

Watch your favorite channels and shows on your mobile phone, including live sports on ESPN Mobile TV and NBC Sports., breaking news on MSNBC and Fox News, the most popular children's programming from Disney Channel, and More. Android Gingerbread Operating System

The Pantech Pocket runs the Android 2.3 operating system (dubbed Gingerbread) which features a cleaner, more refined interface with new icons, improved top notification bar, and more intuitive navigation.

Multitasking in Gingerbread allows you the ability to run more than one app at a time. If you're playing a game, you can easily switch to an incoming e-mail and then switch back to the game without losing your place. And like the previous version of Android ("Froyo"), Gingerbread provides support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for access to the full Web.

The onscreen keyboard makes it easier to type thanks to additional spacing between the keys and larger font sizes. And the more you use the keyboard, the easier typing will be as the enhanced suggest feature records previous input history to make better suggestions.

The Pocket also brings one-touch access to the popular Google mobile services you use every day. It also provides easy access to both personal and corporate e-mail, calendars, and contacts supported by Exchange Server and Gmail. And through Android Market, you'll get access to thousands of useful applications, widgets, and fun games to download and install on your phone, with many more apps being added every day.

Google Integration
  • Android Market for browsing and downloading thousands of free and paid apps
  • Pre-loaded Android apps: Browser, Calculator, Calendar (Google or Corporate), Camera, Clock, Contacts, Email, Gallery, Messaging, Music, News & Weather, Phone, Settings, Video Player, Voice Dialer, Voice Search, YouTube
  • Google applications: Gmail, Google Search, Google Voice Search, Google Latitude, Google Maps, Google Places, Google Talk
  • Google Maps Navigation with spoken turn-by-turn directions showing real-time traffic and 360° views of the destination

A great little phone for people with simple needs, like me.
Reviewed in the United States ?? on May 2, 2017

Verified Purchase
First of all, I wish to point out that the Pantech Pocket is an old phone, released around 2012 or so. Hence, the
technology will be outdated. Be aware of this before purchasing the phone. I was very fortunate to find a third-party
seller on Amazon who sold me this phone very cheaply yet in very good condition in early 2017, and for my purposes, it is
a good phone.

As a phone, it still works just fine. Furthermore, unlike most old phones of its age, the Pantech Pocket connects via
3g/4g technology, so if you wish to use it as a feature phone, it is basically future-proof for years. You just need a
mini-Sim; most phones now have a nano-SIM, so you may need to use an adaptor.

The Pantech Pocket connects to internet through data or Wi-Fi as well, and the browser works very well and is quite fast.
I had no trouble at all visiting my regular websites. Just make sure your time on the phone is accurate for your time
zone to avoid "expired certificate" messages due to incorrect clock time.

Media works fine. You can listen to music and watch videos, although bigger videos may not play due to the phone's
limited memory. There's a 3.5mm headphone jack, too. I had no problems watching any youtube videos, either. Just keep in mind resolution is standard for 5 years ago, NOT for today's expectations.

The battery life is good. The battery is removable as well! My phone easily lasts a day at work with plenty to spare.
Stand-by should last a week if not more. I use the Pantech Pocket mostly for e-reading 1-2 hours daily, in which case the
phone lasts over 3 days before needing a charge.

The phone uses Android (2.3.4), also known as Gingerbread. I do not believe you can load the amazon marketplace app on
it. Nor, for that matter, does the current Kindle app support this phone. Furthermore, the Google Playstore (known as
the Android Market on this phone), will not work either, as Google no longer supports Gingerbread. So, if modern apps are
important to you, don't get this phone.

If you DO get the Pantech Pocket anyway, there are still available apps, albeit outdated ones. You won't be able to get
them from Amazon or Google, but there are other market websites which offer the older APK files for download. Find one or
two that you trust, and you're set. The trick is to find an APK that works on Gingerbread. There are available e-
readers, cache cleaners, launchers, etc.

My Pantech Pocket is a great epub reader. The volume buttons can be used to flip pages. Outdoors reading is okay in
shade, but you might have trouble in direct sunlight.

Oddly enough, this phone was considered too big back in the day. Compared to modern smartphones, it is much smaller,
easily one-hand usable, and very sturdy. The back cover curves over the front of the phone, thereby protecting the screen
should you drop the phone by accident face-down. In fact, you don't need any extra cover for this phone; feel confident
to use it without any extra protection.

So...if you want a phone that will work for years to come as a feature phone, won't break or crack with a simple drop, easy to grip, does well with very simple apps, can still access internet just fine, is very inexpensive, and is a great e-reader, the Pantech Pocket is a good choice.

If you want games and apps and Android Nougat or a superb ecosystem, this is not the phone for you.

I’m wondering why these were even for sale
Reviewed in the United States ?? on July 6, 2021

I bought these phone so I use them instead of my iPhone 12. My phone is being hacked and I had one of these old phone and I was able to take the battery and SIM card out and put it away until I needed it. Now AT&T will not provide service to theses 4g and 3 g phones. It was a waste of my money and time. At &t are getting rid of their 3 g towers. I don’t know why Amazon is allowing these to be sold when they are discontinuing all 3 g phones

Great little phone, purchased for my almost 70 year old mother. The size of the screen and ability to increase the size of the font made this a no brainer. Also has an easy mode!! win-win. Only problem now is............she can text me constantly!!!
