Fun for hours!

I got this for my son for his 6th birthday. He loves hobbies such as rock collecting, fossil hunting, and metal detecting. He absolutely loved this gift, and it kept him busy for several hours 2 evenings in a row. He looked like a little archaeologist carefully digging out each treasure, then he would search the helpful book included to see which fossil or rock he had just unearthed. Even the grown men got in on the fun of digging for fossils. We kept a spray bottle of water close by to help moisten the clay when it became to difficult to dig. I’d give more stars if I could!

Missing 2 crystals and broken crown shark tooth

Nice kit but doesn't come with a the crystals it says as well as the crow shark tooth was broken and we followed all of the instructions as well as soaked the clay and still missing crystals.

I bought this for my 5 year old because she was obsessed with dinosaurs, fossils, and gems. I figure this covered all the bases and was an easy gift. She absolutely loves it.
It's definitely a messy project, so either do it outside or put it in a pan. That's part of what makes it fun, though.
The project isn't something that you can get done in 20 minutes. It's perfect to teach that patience gives rewards. It also comes with a booklet that tells all about the pieces that are dug out and most of the words are simple enough that a newly-reading child can get through it.
Unlike the other 3 sets that we've ordered in the past, this one was actually easy enough to get through without soaking in water or having to get adult help. They're easy to clean off, easy to find, but still require time.
If you're looking for a gift whether for boys or girls, this one is definitely worth it.

Great product, mallet is just too small

My kids LOVE doing these! They are 2 and 4 and think they are looking for treasure when they do them. I love watching my 4 year old help his little brother and listening to him tell him how to do it and watching them bond just makes me happy. My only complaint is that the mallet included is just too small. The handle needs to be longer. Thankfully I had held onto the bigger ones from another set we did so we used those instead.

I had a similar kit to this when I was a kid. I gave this one to my daughter for her birthday, as a nice STEM gift that's different from the usual toys. She loved it! It was fun to watch her dig out the pieces and to identify and read about them in the included booklet. The only complaints I have are that the little brush that comes with it is useless (we had other old paintbrushes lying around that work much better to dust things off), and that most of the pieces were all clustered together. That last one is probably variable, but would have been nice to see things more spread out so they weren't on top of each other. Just be aware, it makes a mess, so outside may be best. But what a fun little toy to get kids away from their screens!

He got a small chip of a geode, not the huge half of a geode pictured in the front and center of the box. I don't care that that is what he received if they hadn't shown the gorgeous geode on the front of the box. I'm attaching pictures for reference. Also, if you want this activity to take awhile, don't soak it. If you want to find everything quickly, then soak it.
