Quality Control SUCKS from the factory

3 outta 5 star rating due to the fact only 4 outta 5 bolt holes would line up. Installation would’ve been a breeze if it weren’t for the lack of quality control before it left the factory. The first four bolts went straight in & took about 15 mins. I finally got the 5th & final bolt bolt installed after a couple hours using a combination of beating with a hammer, prying with 3 foot long pry bar & cussing it like a drunken sailor.

This is a heavy duty well built trailer hitch. My vehicle is a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and this was a bolt-on.

Caveat: This was not easy to install. It is heavy. I used a combination of bricks and the car's jack to assist in installing it. You use 5 of the existing bolts that secure the gas tank skid guard to install it. On my vehicle these were TIGHT all the way down to the last 1/4". I used a 2' breaker bar, and my arms were very sore by the time I finished. My recommendation: If you do not have a HEAVY DUTY AIR DRIVEN impact wrench, pay someone who does to install this.

This is the 3rd trailer hitch I've ordered on Amazon. The first two were made by Curt and fit perfectly on an xTerra and Odyssey. I couldn't find a Curt for the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, so I went with this one. There are three holes on one side, and two on the other. The three-hole bracket on the hitch didn't line up well enough with the holes in the frame, and we had to leave one of the bolts not installed (the rear most one). I doubt the problem is with the Jeep. This probably won't limit greatly the capability of the hitch and I doubt we would ever pull close to the 5,000 lb rating. However, slightly larger bolt holes in the hitch bracket would have solved the problem.

Poor fit, very difficult installation.

Pros: the mounting holes more or less line up for each side.
Cons: the sides are not aligned properly when they were welded.
Installation took nearly 5 hours. It wa nearly impossible to pry the sides into alignment. I was finally able to get both bolts in the driver side but only two of the three on the passenger side. Don't worry about the quality of the finish as it will look like you dragged it behind your vehicle before installing it from all of the pounding and prying trying to make it fit. In hindsight, I should have removed the rear bumper cover, measured the distance it was off, taken it back off and used a jack to try and bend it into the right shape. Then put the bumper cover back on before installing it (because you can't put the bumper cover back on after the receiver is in place. Regardless, plan on it taking the better part of a day to install, it looking like crap once it is on, it rusting almost immediately due to the damaged finish and your hands and arms being thrashed due to the impossile positions you have to be in to reach and install the furthest rear bolts (which are super prone to cross threading due to the poor fit and interference with the stabilizing bars).
