To stay ahead in a competitive marketplace, small businesses need to make every dollar count. That means getting the most value from your technology investments, but it also means making sure that employees have fast, reliable access to the business tools and information they need. Every minute an employee waits for an unresponsive application--and every minute your network is down--has an impact on your bottom line. When your business needs more advanced security and switch features, but value is still a top priority, you're ready for the new generation of Cisco Small Business managed switches: the Cisco 300 Series.

Move Up to a Business-Class Network

A Powerful Foundation for the Small Business Network

Cisco 300 Series Switches provide the right features at the right price, along with the reliability, performance, and investment protection you expect from a Cisco switch. You can rest assured that your network has been rigorously tested to deliver business-class availability and performance at an affordable price and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty and the Cisco Small Business Support Center. You can also be confident that your network will grow with your business. The Cisco 300 Series was designed to integrate future networking and communication deployments, and is fully compatible with the complete Cisco Small Business portfolio.

Right Features at the Right Price

Cisco 300 Series Switches offer enhanced switch features that support advanced technologies, including quality of service (QoS) intelligence and advanced traffic management to simplify the addition of voice, wireless, and security services. These advanced managed switching features give you a variety of capabilities for controlling traffic over your network and help keep your applications running at peak performance, in a solution designed and priced for small businesses.

Boost business communications with IP telephony, wireless, and other advanced deployments using Power over Ethernet (PoE) connectivity, QoS, and virtual LANs to segment network traffic. Turn up powerful security measures such as access control lists (ACLs) and guest virtual LANs (VLANs) to provide rich services to users while protecting applications and information. Meet tomorrow's networking needs as well as today's with advanced features like static routing and IPv6 support, which let you enable the latest generation of networking applications and operating systems without an extensive equipment upgrade.

Lower Energy Costs

Reduce power consumption by using these switches. Designed to optimize power usage, the switches offer energy efficiency without compromising performance by powering down ports when not in use. Choose from models that have no fans, so they run silently and unobtrusively, even as they reduce energy costs.

Simplify Setup and Management

Cisco 300 Series Switches are designed to be easy to configure and manage. They make it easy to set up and manage even complex network environments, reducing the time your staff devotes to network management and troubleshooting. Speed setup with an intuitive, web-based interface that simplifies security, QoS traffic prioritization, and configuration and management.

Speed setup with easy-to-use tools such as Cisco Discovery Protocol, the Cisco FindIT Network Discovery Utility (a free browser plug-in tool that automatically discovers switches, provides key information about the product, and launches directly into the Web UI), and Cisco Smartports, which let your network automatically detect and configure all connected Cisco devices. A CLI and menu-based CLI is also available for customers who prefer text configuration.

Intelligent features simplify voice deployments. The switches support dynamic and automatic creation of voice VLAN and QoS parameters on switches in the network, auto-configuration of ports based on the connected endpoints, instructing the endpoints on correct settings to use, and applying appropriate settings to voice endpoints to help ensure high fidelity of voice traffic.

Protect your investment with a solution that has been designed and tested to easily integrate with other Cisco networking and communications products, including the complete Cisco Small Business portfolio.

Excellent for small business / office environments

I am a network engineer, and have used SF/SG300 series switches extensively for small business deployments (mostly the PoE variants, but sometimes these non-PoE ones). They are great for what they are, which is a no-frills, reliable, managed, configurable, L2 switch.

They have both CLI and GUI-based management. The OS on these is not true Cisco IOS, but it's similar *enough* that if you know IOS, you won't have too much trouble getting around the CLI. They have a fairly easy process for boot code and firmware updates, and are pretty easy to commission from scratch.

I would highly recommend these for office (i.e. access layer) environments, where your main concern is uptime, and where you don't really need some of the more carrier-grade features like QinQ tunneling or advanced logging, but nonetheless want the flexibility to have remote management, configure basic trunks, as well as a voice VLAN (LLDP or OUI-based). They can also do some basic routing (i.e. static routes for inter-VLAN routing as well as DHCP), but not enough to qualify it as an L3 switch.

I would not recommend these to be used as carrier distribution or core switches. I would recommend going with something that runs true IOS (or now IOSXR), and has more complete logging features.

That said, whatever your intended application may be, I suggest reading up on the capabilities of these things, because I am sure they can do a lot more than I give them credit for.

Works as expected, strange IOS label though?
Reviewed in the United States ?? on March 7, 2018

The switch seems to do everything a standard switch should be expected to do. However something very baffling is happening with this model.
I got this for a networking class and when i went to start doing the labs, they were asking for Cisco IOS version 15.0 however the startup-config information seems to claim that it is running version 1.0, the firmware is at the latest for the unit but there seems to be no indication of how to update the IOS from 1.0 to 15.0 and there appear to be no guides on how to accomplish this update.
however it appears that I am still able to do everything with this unit that is necessary for my class but it is odd that there is a 14 version diffrence, or so it claims. The more I dig into it the more it seems like this is a random labeling error because I still am able to use all the commands I should be able to.

Nice!

I usually do not do this much, to prevent identity exposition. This is a very nice, well-done switch, with a few minor faults. The materials (black, grey steel) are good; the luminance of the indicator lights oscillate between a bright and isolated to a low-locally dim.
The default address given by the instruction manual was unresponsive. After a few days of use, a randomly input address displayed the manage page. The technical details are exciting to work with. Info contained within the purchase page was not the best to work with. There is no close-up display.

Good Product

This is like many Cisco products, some training is best to make use of this. Think back to computer programming days when command line prompts were king. A series of commands would let you set up the device to do what you want. (This option is still available). Now we have a web based GUI to make this a lot simpler. If you are unsure of how to set this up, Cisco will help during the first couple of years..

GUI verses complex commands?

:( but great service

Great company, well Great customer service. I would say, some of the best service I have had which is why they got 2 stars.. I am not sure if it's my fault and theirs. However, I decide to buy a refurbished switch from them. Faceplate smell of smoke as if the board had fried. I thought maybe something had happen to and was fix. The price was to good to not to test the switch maybe was just a stinky switch. Long story short the board was fried. I couldn't login to the switch. The switch would not get past it's BIT test. However, like I said the computer has really Great customer service. However, I also lost a week of class waiting to find/get another switch. maybe I should have just spent the money for a Cisco SF300-24 24-Port

I guess it is okay.

I purchased this managed switch based on the Cisco reputation. The switch works great but the software and connectivity to program the system is useless. The login page comes up but there is no way to see what you are inputting. Very frustrating as once you basically figure out the user/pw portion you come to the administration pages with absolutely no visual capabilities to program. Tried many different ways to fix issue but to no avail.
