I can tow!

This receiver fit my 2006 Subaru Legacy GT sedan -almost- perfectly. I was able to install it myself (although without a lift it was a bit of a challenge) in about an hour. The only problem I had was that the last bolt you install, which keeps the tow-arm from moving up and down, didn't quite fit. They provide a large rectangular steel washer that when used, doesn't line up correctly with support ring on the car.
I fixed this issue by buying two large washers from a hardware store that fit better, but are probably much weaker than the large steel washer they provide (fortunately I'm only towing about 300lbs). I eventually took the car to a friend of mine who is a car mechanic for some maintenance. He complimented me on the installation and even tightened the bolts a bit with a torque wrench (which was recommended but I didn't have one). He also offered to cut the steel washer a bit so that it could still be used, but I didn't have it with me at the time.
Regardless I have already used it a couple times to tow a small aluminum fishing boat and it has worked great!
Note: 2006 Subaru Legacy GT sedan does NOT come with a connector for the tow lights (the wagon does). You will need to buy a control unit separately and do some wire splicing to get it to work.

Fit OK - had to bend hitch to get proper fitment
Reviewed in the United States ?? on August 12, 2017

This curt hitch fit my 06 Outback 2.5i OK. I had to bend it slightly to get past the brackets others have mentioned. It was not necessary to cut the brackets or the hitch.
Also, the kit included shims - but had no indication of when/or if they were needed. I didn't use them, but apparently, according to curt "some applications" might need them. Your supposed to use a level to check - but if your underneath a car that's jacked up in the back, how is the level going to work?
Anyway, between this hitch, a poor fit with
CURT 122703 Class 2 Trailer Hitch with Old-Style Ball Mount, Pin and Clip
on my last Legacy, and a poor fit for my friend's curt hitch, I think I will buy Draw-Tite next time.

Does NOT fit 2008 Outback
Reviewed in the United States ?? on July 18, 2022

The bracket is 1/2" too short by width and I do not have the tools to widen it. There are several reviewers on Amazon alone who have reported that the bracket has to be heavily modified to fit Subarus. So in short, it does NOT fit and it is false advertising to pretend that it does.

Worked, with modifications, on my 2007 Outback Limited Wagon.
Reviewed in the United States ?? on January 10, 2015

The hitch is fine, installed relatively easily on my 2007 Outback wagon, but there were some differences in my vehicle and the install instructions which could be a show stopper if you don't have the right tools available. There is a bracket attached to the car frame that interfered with the hitch. My bracket had an extended tab (as shown in the picture) that was unlike the bracket shown in the instructions. I used a grinder to remove the extra tab, and everything went together fine (second picture).

Easy to install
Reviewed in the United States ?? on June 7, 2016

Easy to install, works like a charm. As others have noted, on an Outback wagon there is a bumper support bracket that will need modification to be re-installed. Nothing 5 minutes with a cut-off wheel didn't handle. Overall, a 20 minute install, but I have a lift and power tools to make it easy. On my back in a driveway without air tools, it would have taken maybe an hour tops.
