This replacement tailgate lock is a replacement handle assembly for GM truck owners switching from a non-locking to locking tailgate utilizing the Bolt technology. It fits 2007 to present day Chevy and GMC trucks. The three easy steps are, insert truck key, then turn once and it learns your key. It allows one key for convenience for the entire vehicle and simplifies access control. These locks learn your car key the first time you use them.

I was a bit skeptical about this product, but it really is indistinguishable from a factory upgrade. I was also very impressed with the mechanism that keys the lock to your ignition key. It works perfectly.

It took me about 20 minutes to complete this installation, and I was being very careful not to break anything or scratch the paint on my new truck.

A trick that will help you: After completely removing the bottom bolt (the lower bolt when the tailgate is up), put it back in with about 5 threads of engagement. Then, push this bolt towards the tailgate, and your bezel will pop off easily. The bezel is held on with 3 spring clips. You don't need to use a screwdriver and risk scratching your paint. This will make sense when you look at the new parts.

Ordered a tonneau with this item, I wanted my truckbed somewhat secure. Read the reviews on a bunch of tailgate locks, and am glad I did not "cheap out" on the purchase. Installed it in 20 minutes, directions are good. Best part is not having to carry around another key, insert your ignition key, twist 180 degrees, and all is good. Before I recycled the box, I noticed it had a GM product sticker on it, which explains why it fits perfectly. Would buy it again.
